I witnessed greatness as Elliott Wilson interviewed T.I., better known as The King of the South at the Gramercy Theater last night in New York City. T.I. is a rapper, record producer, author, actor, a father, and a husband. Busy man I’ll say. Elliott Wilson, a very well known journalist conducted an extensive and intriguing interview with T.I. addressing his childhood, albums, record labels, and more.
I had the honor of being seated in the audience to experience Mr. Wilson’s incredible interviewing skills, and the high energy given from the talented and remarkably successful rapper, T.I. He just released his 9th album on October 21st called “Paperwork” and also has his own reality show called “T.I. and Tiny: The Family Hustle.”
Everyone wants to know what makes “Paperwork” different from T.I.’s other 8 albums. Well, according to T.I. this album shows his growth and evolution. He was able to push past his limitations to expand as an artist and demonstrate his creativity. One line in particular stood out to me from this interview, which was, “I make a conscious effort to go the opposite direction of what everyone else is doing.” Originality is important and keeps the rap game interesting therefore I understand T.I.’s determination to stay in his own lane.
Speaking of originality, Iggy Azalea has a unique image and style. During the interview, T.I. said it was something special about Iggy Azalea. He called it a “Killer Instinct.” She blew up ultra fast; it’s clear to see she earned her title as The First Lady of Grand Hustle.
