No one is better than Drake this year

The 2018 BET Hip Hop awards are coming and guess who has 11 nominations?

Yep, thats right its Drake who is in the lead with nominations but what else could we expect? “In My Feelings” is still everyone’s favorite single, “God’s Plan” is a song most of the world agrees with and “Nice For What” is every girl’s anthem.

Drake has genius lyric tendencies with dozens of catchy and relatable phrases embedded through every song.

Drake is nominated for “Album of the year” and “Lyricist of the year” to name a couple. Whether he wrote the lyrics or not, his music is incredible. All credit to everyone involved.

What’s your favorite Drake song of all time?

Meek Mill & Miguel BET STAY WOKE Performance

Wow, Meek Mill and Miguel performed a powerful new release titled, “Stay Woke” at the BET Awards this past Sunday. This performance had an undeniable impact. There was action, unfortunately parallel to the current CBS or ABC news story that have been airing lately.  Meek Mill and Miguel dressed the role of the average African American that is murdered by a police officer wearing a hoody.

Meek Mill’s new single, “Stay Woke” stands out because Meek Mill is an actual person that has experienced the wrong side of the law first hand. He wasn’t a witness but a victim of wrongful sentencing.

The live performance for “Stay Woke” included cops fighting African Americans on the street, a young girl shot and killed and vivid images of incarceration.

“I used to play the quarterback, my dog would go receiver, That was til the ball got flat by a dope needle on the pavement, It’s amazing’, this environment we was raised in.”

My number one lyric,

“How can I pledge allegiance to the flag, When they killing all our sons, all our dads?”

Meek Mill was sentenced to 2-4 years in jail late last year for violating probation. Well Known individuals such as Rick Ross and Colin Kapernick rallied and spoke their mind about the injustice.

His performance also paid homage to the late XXXTentacion. The Hoody worn by Meek Mill was a large image of XXX’s face. His lyrics discuss the lifestyle of rappers who do drugs and he doesn’t discredit them but he explains how his life was when he was on the same path.

In this song, you can see Meek Mill’s growth as an artist but also his growth as a human being. The advice provided in this song is deep and I really hope listeners take heed.

Enjoy the BET Performance above and above all, “Stay Woke.”

Justin Timberlake Performance of the Year

What a burst of energy when Justin Timberlake began his performance backstage at the VMA’s. “Take back the night” was the starter of a thriller performance & boy did he own the night! No one was ready for the stellar performance Justin would provide for the audience and fans around the world. One moment he’s backstage and the next the crowd is before him. He’s such an eminent musician! The collaborative efforts between the key players in the performance were apparent from the live band down to the lighting. It seem like everything and everyone around him were “N’SYNC.”

Although, his performance seemed unusually long, I didn’t want him to stop. I’m sure you wondered how he was able to sing and dance for so long without passing out! However, I’m sure long hours of rehearsals prepared him for a great show.

He remixed one of his songs by singing his lyrics to “Sexy back” with the beat of Jay-Z ‘s “F**k With Me You Know I Got It” from his latest album. The collaboration was excellent; just when your mind is satisfied he jumps into a full fledge dance number to the beat of “Sexy Back!”

His dedication to his audience was surely on point. His ability to hit high notes, and incorporating his fans into the performance further made it even more memorable than any other performer that night.

As anyone would expect he played some of his hits such as “My Love” and “Cry me a River” but no one knew what would be next. “Cry me a river” is and will always be a fave but this part of the performance was nothing compared to what happens next.

Suddenly you see these bright flashing lights & N’SYNC appears on the stage right behind Justin Timberlake & the crowd went crazy! N’SYNC haven’t performed together since the 2003 Grammy awards. I couldn’t stop smiling when I heard “Girlfriend” and “Bye Bye”, those are just songs that bring back childhood memories.

To top it off, Justin doesn’t stop he actually goes on to perform his latest songs. There were several moments in his performance that seemed like great stopping points but impressively he didn’t seem tired until the very last song. Justin Timberlake VMA’s performance will definitely go down in VMA’s history. That night showed that he’s reach self-actualization showing his growth, and endurance in the spotlight. He’s simply nothing more than a bundle of pure talent in the 21st century.
